How to create a chat/group on Telegram?

There are four types of chats on Telegram:

1. Regular. For example, a personal chat with a family member or friend;
2. Group. Groups are usually created by friends, classmates, or colleagues to exchange information;
3. Secret chat.
4. Supergroup. A group chat with more than 30,000 members.

The steps depend on your device. We describe each method below.

Via phone:

Regular chat

• Launch Telegram and click the New Message icon. It is in the lower-right corner on Android and the upper-right corner on iOS.
• Select a contact.
• Enter your message and click Send.

General (group)

• To create a group, launch Telegram, open the menu, and select New Group.
• Select group members;
• Enter the name of the group chat;
• You can now chat and share files with the group members. To add members, click the three vertical dots and select the appropriate option.

You can also create a group through the Write a message icon.

Secret

• Click the name or icon of the user with whom you want to start a secret chat.
• Click More and select Start Secret Chat.

Via computer

Regular chat

• Launch Telegram and click the menu button;
• Select the Contacts section;
• Select a contact from the list;
• enter your message and click Send. The chat will be created automatically.

Group

• Open the menu section.
• Select New Group;
• enter a group name and click Next;
• add members from your contact list and click Create.

Secret

Unfortunately, you can’t create a secret chat on a computer.
